Digital Pakistan Cybersecurity Hackathon 2023

Ignite (National Technology Fund) is hosting Pakistan’s Third Cybersecurity Competition (NCC) which will enhance cybersecurity readiness, protection, and incident response capabilities of the country by conducting cyber drills in multiple cities. The cyber drills will be designed with a dual purpose: as a platform for cooperation, information sharing, and discussions on current cybersecurity issues, as well as to provide hands-on exercise for national cybersecurity resources.

NCC - CTF (Capture the Flag) contest will gather hundreds of hackers from different cities nationwide to exhibit their skills.

Hackers skills will be pushed to the limits by advanced real life cyber-attack scenarios prepared under the guidance of cybersecurity experts. The deadline to register for the contest is 15th September 2023.

Objectives of Cyber Security Competitions or cyber drills as described by ITU (International Telecommunication Union) are as follows:

Enhancing cybersecurity capacity and capabilities through regional collaborations and cooperation

Enhancing the awareness and the capability of countries to participate and to contribute to the development and deployment of a strategy for defeating a cyber threat

Strengthening international cooperation between Member States to ensure continued collective efforts against cyber threats

Enhancing Member States incident response capabilities and communication

Assisting Member States to develop and implement operational procedures to respond better to various cyber incidents, identify improvements for future planning and CIRT processes and operational procedures.

Answer: After closing the registration process, Ignite will arrange an online assessment for shortlisting the teams. Successful teams will be invited for on-site competition.

Answer: No, there is no fee for joining the competition. If the team is selected for the final, Ignite will bear the cost of travelling and boarding/lodging.

Answer: Winning team need to be present to receive the Cybersecurity Hackathon award to be held in Islamabad. Round-trip travel with accommodation in Islamabad will be provided by Ignite.

Answer: There will separate session for red teaming and blue teaming. The competition will comprise multiple cybersecurity categories as a whole.

Answer: The duration of the physical hackathon would be 10 hours. Final round could be up to 12 hours.

Answer: Each team is formed of one junior (age between 10-22 years) and three (maximum) seniors (ages between 23-35). The cut-off date for both categories is the 31st December of the competition year.
